Wedding rings
the eternal circle
Wedding Rings:
Wedding rings symbolize marriage between the bridegroom and his bride. Classic
wedding rings speak volumes about the tradition and many brides prefer
conventional rings as compared to the intricately detailed rings. These rings
portray the essence of love between two hearts.
Wedding rings complement all styles of jewelry pieces and clothing. They present
a beautiful picture of unity and eternal love. Wedding rings made of white gold,
yellow gold and platinum have become the most popular choices amongst modern
couples.
With classic wedding ring available in vast variations, wedding couples can
select from a large number of sizes and shapes. Most wedding rings currently
have a bit of engraving around the ring’s circumference. Contrary to yellow
gold, today many couples prefer the silver jewelry look. Wedding rings made of
platinum are also a good option. Similar to white gold in terms of appearance,
it is much more resistant and durable than white gold. White gold or Yellow Gold
wedding rings are more known in terms of their hardness. Nevertheless, platinum
is sturdier and never tarnishes a scratch, as easily as both yellow gold and
white gold.
Wedding Ring Customs:
Wedding vows
Apart from having a high value in terms of cost, wedding rings also have
sentimental and significant value attached to them. Both the groom and the bride
sport wedding rings. Wedding rings worn by groom and bride are known as groom’s
wedding ring and bride’s wedding ring respectively.
The fingers on which the wedding rings are worn vary from one nation to another.
In some nations such as Brazil, United States and Commonwealth nations, they are
worn on the left hand ring finger. In other nations, they are worn on the right
hand ring finger.
In order to prepare wedding rings, jewelers commonly use gold hardened with
bismuth, tin and copper owing to their huge popularity. White alloys of gold and
platinum are also occasionally used. However, they are now increasingly replaced
by gold-nickel alloy having thin rhodium plating.
Another material that has become popular because of its affordability,
durability and grey gunmetal color is Titanium. Even tungsten carbide is used
with platinum or gold inlays. In the past generations, in the United States and
United Kingdom, women used wedding bands more commonly than men. Whether, it is
due to personal comfort or work related reasons or for safety, both partners
wear their wedding rings.
On some occasions, spouses may also sport the wedding rings including them in
their respective chains around their necks. Contrary to conventional wedding
customs, when the ring was worn only by the bride, currently both the bride and
the groom sport wedding rings. Although, there was no evidence to the origin of
such practice, it never really became popular at that time.
In the latter part of the 19th century, the jewelry industry in America began a
marketing campaign mostly aimed at encouraging their usage. In the 1920s,
changing economic condition and the impact of the World War led to a more
aggressive and successful marketing campaign. This became evident during the
1940s, when more than 80% of all weddings were accomplished with the help of
double ring ceremonies.
Interpretations of Wedding Rings and Overview:
The interpretations for wedding rings are as old as the wedding ring itself.
Based on an interpretation, it is believed that women wear their wedding ring
below their engagement ring, thus making it closer to their heart. Another
practice states that, the wedding ring needs to be worn below the engagement
ring sealing the engagement atmosphere into the marriage. Some others opt that
wedding ring needs to be worn alone.
Previously, wedding rings were treasured by the brides, since they used to bring
the pleasant memories of their wedding ceremonies. With the passage of time, the
importance of wedding rings has decreased. Thanks to the advent of internet, the
longing from the bride for a wedding ring has diminished.
In modern times, with technology, traditional values and customs are constantly
on the fight. It is just a matter of time, when wedding rings that symbolize
relationship would simply vanish. For this, it is important for wedding couples,
that they treasure the ever eroding heritage in a best possible manner.
Wedding Rings and band of all sorts, written by Paul Agung
With this ring, I thee wed. Indeed, one of the most
significant phrases to be spoken in a lifetime. But what about the object to
which these words refer, the wedding ring? Careful consideration should be given
to its' selection, for it will remain a part of you, and your commitment, for
life.

SILVER, OR PLATINUM?
